The Audience

All of writing I've done has had one goal in mind. Engage the audience. (I didn't accomplish that everytime, but I did try.) This seems kinda obvious, and to be fair I think most other writers are trying to do this. But I've seen a lot of work that doesn't even look like their trying to. I think the question I try to ask everytime I work on a project is "Why does anyone care about this story?" If I don't have a good answer to that I need to stop writing and go back to planning. I think a more cynical approach to this would be "What's your hook?" but if that's what it takes to force you to write something interesting, then that's what it takes.

Tools

Canon Gl2

My baby. Yeah there are better cameras but after doing my research I came to the conclusion that it was a great value, and I haven't been disappointed yet. It was used for Rolodex Girl, Ed Bacon's interview for Craig's Variety Hour, and a side project at work. It's never let me down and I love using it.

Adobe Digital Video Collection

For the longest time I had a less than legal collection of this software. Now after years of using them because they were available for free I own my own copy. So piracy can sometimes lead to proper usage.

Final Draft

Every script I've written has been spit out on this thing. It's lightyears beyond doing it with Word. It's the Movable Type of screenwriting. (If you are a screenwriter, than Movable Type is the Final Draft of blogging) [If you are neither screenwriter or blog author, you have no frame of reference, and to you I apologize.]
