Aarrgghh!!

Back from Florida

I went down to Walt Disney World for my birthday, and I got back into town yesterday. I've been catching up on everything in preparation for leaving again for Long Island this weekend for Christmas with Janice's family. So I'm just going to do a stream of consciousness thing here and spill it all.

1. It was my first time at Disney World. It was everything all my childhood friends who had been there told me it was. EPCOT was really very cool, and I'm starting to see the allure of Disney in general. (Although I don't think I will be the zealot that someone I know is.)

2. We had dinner at Akershus, the Norwegian restaurant because we really wanted to try something we couldn't have here in Philly. It turns out that it also hosts character dining with the Disney Princesses. Consequently, there were about 50 little girls in princess costumes looking forward to eating with Cinderella. Instead of doing so, they were eating pickled herring and waiting with very narrowed eyes. It was like being a fern in a room full of velociraptors. Yeah the velociraptors don't care about the fern, but they wouldn't hesitate to shred it to pieces if it would get them closer to some fresh meat. That's the look in these girl's eyes. However, Norwegian food is awesome, and the waitress was really friendly because we were interested in Norway.

3. During one of our lunches, Tigger came up to us. He was lured by Janice's Eeyore ears. He was kinda excited until he saw Janice's shirt, which had a Pooh and an Eeyore on it. At this point he became irate, because he was being snubbed. At which point I told him "Hey dude, look at all of these kids here, they love you, but a lot of them are afraid of Eeyore. We make sure he has fans too." Tigger thought for a second, and then nodded. I was really proud of myself for pursuading Tigger until I realized that I had really just won an argument with a 19 year old girl dressed as a Tigger. It's a good thing he doesn't know what Eeyore really thinks about Tigger.

4. Between cute little girls dressed as princesses, funny little boys with mouse ears, and screaming monsters of both genders, Disney World is both an incentive to and deterrent from having children.
