I love the word Schadenfreude, but now that I know we have a perfectly cogent English definition, I'll use it. BTW, I cannot find epicaricacy in any online dictionaries. Help!
I think that we are happy to use both the German schadenfreude and the Greek epicaricacy just demonstrates the diversity of English. I don't see why we should favour one over the other.
If you want a dictionary of rare English words then definitely check out the Luciferous Logolepsy (not a religious cult) which is a great online dictionary that defines exceptionally rare words including epicaricacy and schizothemia.
