Aarrgghh!!

Macanudo Maduro Hyde Park

This will be the first cigar I've reviewed that I'm not so keen on. I got it free from Holt's when I bought a box of Punch London Club's, otherwise I would not have bought it in the first place. I was never a big fan of Macanudo's but I like maduros so I figured I'd give it chance.

It was very strong tasting, but not any particular taste other than "cigar." Sorta like a hot sause that's hot, but not much else. The draw was pretty stiff but losened up over time. On the plus side the wrapper was very oily (in a good way) and it burned pretty evenly.

All in all, I would probably accept it for free again, but I wouldn't pay for it.

Stats: It's a Dominican cigar, made from Mexican binder, with Dominican, Mexican and Jamaican filler. It says that the wrapper is Connecticut, but I didn't think maduro wrappers came from Connecticut. It's 5.5 inches with a 49 ring gauge. It took me about an hour to smoke.

Aarrgghh Guy! I happen to think that women can be just as mistaken about cigars as men. Sorry my not liking this cigar bothers you.

I have a humidor filled with Macanudo Maduros that I have let sit for almost a year! They are an exquisite smoking experience. You could have gotten a bad cigar, or maybe the cigar that you did get wasn't properly aged. Macanudos as a whole have consistent superior quality. Put some in a humidor for a few months and they almost will rival a Flor Domenicana!

Yes, my Macanudos are Hyde Parks and they are super good. I don't smoke cigars that often because they really aren't good for you, but when I do smoke, I smoke only the best. Now, I have my cigars in a really high quality humidor with a top humidification system-one that uses distilled water- and it really does a superior job. Cigars, of course are a matter of preference, but the Macanudo is always a great choice. I do like the Maduro because it is more flavorful as well. I think chances are, you got a bad cigar.

Glad to see someone else is not fooled by a cigar being labeled 'premium.' I'm glad they are available- I actually liked Macanudo as a beginning cigar smoker. But as I expanded my tastes, I quickly discovered more flavorful(NOT necessarily stronger) and more complex cigars to enjoy. Their popularity in the US means nothing to me. Arturo Fuente, Ashton, Padron... just about any other brand is a better choice than Macanudo. I'm not the first to say it, I certainly won't be the last: Friends don't let friends smoke Macanudo.

Period.

There are better maduros and there are stronger smokes than their Robusto but if you’re a beginner and are looking to develop your tastes, Macanudo with their basic flavor profile is a great place to start. 642-974
