Aarrgghh!!

Intervention

I finally watched my Tivo'ed copy of Intervention, the new reality show from A&E. I have to say I'm disappointed. The last 20 minutes or so focus on the intervention. The rest of the show was focused on setting up the "why" of the intervention - "Why was the intervention needed?"

I think where they failed here is that they did a good job of showing why they needed the intervention, but they did a less good job of telling me why I should care about these people. Granted, this is going to show the worst of the people off, but I think they need to focus more on making us root for the people. There seems to be a token effort to point out what these people were before they were addicts, but it seems to revel more in their downfall. All in all this is just another exploitative reality show with little social merit. Nothing wrong with that, except, there are other reality shows that are just as exploitative, but don't hide behind a veneer of "helping people."

Having said all this, until I see the one with my boy, Gabe the Gambler, my jury is still out.

Aarrgghh Guy! I assumed the theme music was original to the show. In some previews they used to play "What a Good Boy" by the Barenaked Ladies. Other than that, I don't know. Sorry, I couldn't be more help.

Posted by: Dena at March 10, 2007 1:43 PM

Are you sure it's the Fray song? The commercial currently running contains the lyrics "all alone" yet the Fray song does not. Any ideas?

Posted by: kim at March 18, 2007 8:53 AM

On the current commercial, it is the Fray song "Look after you". They are saying "0ooOooooOooo" not "all alone" although it does sound like "all alone".

Posted by: Angie at May 24, 2007 5:29 PM

at first i thought it was the fray too (the oo ooo oo song). but after i googled it, they say its "five steps" by the davenports. i have yet to determine this as im at work with no speakers. good luck.

Posted by: Joe S at August 7, 2007 8:04 PM

Thanks to KAT for posting Broken Wings by Alter Bridge. =)

Terrence is right. "...but I think they need to focus more on making us root for the people." Addiction is just a symptom of depression, unloving families and other flaws of reality. Believe it. No intervention will cure the blankness that is our lives today. Sober since 04/20/04--still cold inside.

Posted by: angie at November 8, 2007 1:15 PM

This is in response to the comment asking why you should be interested in watching these peoples lives and their individual struggles. If it does not interest you, do not watch it and furthermore, dont then post a blog about your disappointment. No one made you watch this program, you did it of your own free will and at any point you were disappointed you could simply change the channel. so instead of wondering why you should care, if you do not care, then find something to care about and do something more constructive.

Maybe this show is disappointing to those who never experienced addiction. Maybe it would be more dramatic to see what people were like before the addiction.......... So we can feel better about ourselves..... What do I think..... I think this is a wonderful show that should be watched. This show should be presented to schools....It needs to known what happens when we chose to self medicate. It is heartbreaking how a substance can completely take over our lives and there is nothing you can do about it until one is ready. One must be ready and willing to get help...no intervention will cure an addict....the addict must cure himself with support from loved ones. An addict must be willing to change his/her lifestyle. This....my friends...is not easy....it is the fight of your life. Intervention is a start....not a cure. Addiction does not discriminate..it happens to anyone. Me....sober since Oct 2001/addicted to painkillers/Mother/Wife. Then...staying sober...is a daily battle that definetly gets easier. However...still a hard fought battle. Addiction is not cured in a day, week, month or even a year....it is a very long and hard road. Once there.....it is very empowering. When I climbed the mountain of sobriety....I can a can accomplish anything.....My life today has changed competely....Changes I have made myself. You could say....I am a grateful addict....my life today is better than before the addiction. I too....came from a dysfunctional family.....and spent many years feeling empty and worthless. I needed to change my life and I did. It was up to me and no one else how I wanted to live my life...The choice was mine and mine alone. We only have ourselves to blame for the choices made in our life. It is not how we fall....it is how we stand....... Take care and good luck to all the addicts trying to get help and good luck to us sober ones and may we stay this way for life. and thanks joe!..I too....was trying to figure out the name of the song by Strata! Take care everyone.....stillsober

SO...who is it?

Posted by: Kevin at November 29, 2007 11:54 PM

I recently atarted watching the show intervention, and i sometimes tear up in the middle. I am a United states Marine. Before that i was a crack and cocaine addict, somewhere after high school and in community college i lost sight, i was a choir boy so to speak, i had a rough life but in high school i turned that all around, i started partying hard in college and coke turned to crack and drinking was an everyday thing. i used my girlfriend who worked hard and got her hooked as well, it lasted a little more than a year and one day it hit me. that i hated myself. i loved my girlfriend so i needed to do something to be a man, so i turned to marines, what better therapy than 13 weeks at parris island. since we are married, i drive a brand new jeep. my payments every month are what i would have spent in one day on cocaine. i watched the episode about the marine heroine addict it breaks my heart. i believe that this show can be an inspiration to those who know. it reminds me of where i was and where i am going. we watch it together just to remind ourselves and pray for the futures of other people in this world dealing with the same issues. exploitive or not, the point is made, and the lessons are learned. p.s. i was only looking for the song by strata, thanks ya'll

Hi,

In the show Intervention, at the beginning, when it previews the subject and shows quick clips of them and then a black screen with writing, i.e. "Julie; the 15 year old musician" then that morphs into "the crack addict" and during all of this there is an intense piano intro in the background.

I was wondering if someone knew what that song is called and/or where I can download it.

Please respond by emailing me ASAP! Thanks!

Much appreciated, Todd

What is that intro song they play @ the beginning. You know the bells they play when they intro the addict. "My name is Tim.... .... T. I. M. I'm 28 years old and I live in Cleveland, Ohio. My hobbies are skateboarding, golf and bicycling. I am addicted to Crack, Vikes, mushrooms, Zanax, XTC, K cuts, Pot, Vodka, OCs, Perks, Cocaine, Acid, Aterol, Opium, Special K, Heroin, Liquid G, Glue, Nitrus, and my personal favorite METH!! ... .... .... .... weird stare in camera.... ..... ......." LOL No, but seriously someone out there has to know what the instrumental song is. My boyfriend wants it as a ring tone. We love the show and have watched all episodes, even on ONDEMAND Its just as addictive as the drugs they take, it's popular because we ALL can relate in some way.

I love the show. Of course I'm partial, having recovered myself.. Thats the thing with addiction, You aren't yourself while you're active. You are a desperate person devoid of the morals, that you may strongly believe in. It is hard to root for that person.. But for the family trying to rescue them, they know the person inside. Who the addict was as a child. We all sink deep inside while active, and the good is hidden. I relate to the desperation in every episode, and most get me teary. The one flaw I find, is that the show doesn't go far enough into the recovery process. In reality, if they're hoping to send a message to someone that is active, i believe they have succeeded, by showing them that first action needed, asking for or accepting help. However, it is not rehab that saves us. It helped me for sure, but AA was where I learned how to live again. Sober since 11/25/2000.

there was the song on the newest commercial I think they say " I don't wanna die" what song is it!?

Posted by: gaby at December 15, 2008 5:55 PM

The theme song for the new ads (Dec. 08) with the lyrics "I'm alive" and "I don't want to die" is by Tyrone Wells and it's called More. They state it on the A & E website at http://www.aetv.com/intervention/video/

The lyrics are: Sometimes I get so tired, Just trying to find a place, To lay my head, I look up to the sky, I feel the warmest light comfort me, I've seen the great heights, Reminding me... that I'm alive, I don't wanna die, I don't wanna waste another day, Or night, I know there's something more, Than what we're living for, I see it in the stars, I feel it on the shores, I know there's something, I know there's something more.

I think we're all afraid, That we might be alone, Alone down here, We all want to have some faith, At least that's true in my case, To just believe, I've seen the great height, Reminding me... that I'm alive, I don't wanna die, I don't wanna waste another day, Or night, I know there's something more, Than what we're living for,

I see it in the stars, I feel it on the shore, I know there's something, This world may crumble, Into the ocean, It could all end tonight, I undermined you, Then try to find you, My only source of light, There breathing, I am, Breathing, I am, Alive, I don't wanna die, I don't wanna waste another day or night, I know there's something more, Than what we're living for,

I see it in the stars, I feel it on the shore, I know that I'm alive, I don't wanna die, I don't wanna waste another day, Or night, I know there's something more, Than what we're living for, I see it in the stars, I feel it on the shore, I know there's something more.

Intervention is thing where an only game of will power. If you are able to control than you will be the winner either you loose. There are many kind of program running for the intervention and working very successfully. I thought if I got any chance to join them I will definitely do it. Sean Cruz Drug Intervention

Of course sometimes it happens, even if an intervention is done, that the individual will not face that he or she has to go in a rehabilitation program. It usually takes some time for the individual to see the truth and be able to face his problems. But the intervention is always valuable, even if at first it does not look like it. The individual might call you back way later and let you know that he necessitates getting in a rehab, that’s when you’ll realize the intervention helped extremely Listen. If during your drug or alcohol intervention the addict begins asking questions like; Where would I have to go? How long would I be there? These are signs that he is reaching for help. Do not directly answer these questions. Instead have him call in to talk to a professional. Support him. The family and person attending the intervention should definitely express their concerns but not to sympathize with the addict. Sympathy is a form of agreement and can back fire by justifying the dependency. Without any anger or fear, the addict should “get from all the people present that the situation is known and that he/she needs to go to treatment. Don’t allow stories of family problems and life’s troubles sway the attention off the point that the individual has a problem and needs to seek help fixing it. This is where the family’s preparation pays off. Do not wait. Once you’ve gotten his agreement, get him admitted immediately. Therefore, you should have a bag packed for him, any travel arrangements made, and prior acceptance into a treatment. An intervention well planned has a high success

New York drug intervention is for the most parts here to give an individual the right resources to get a person suffering from a dependency that doesn't think he necessitates it into a drug or alcohol rehabilitation treatment.

We showed a documentary on the ill-effects of tobacco to the children, which was well received by them. The children were seen discussing the message, which they got from the documentary, with the teachers. We feel such documentaries are very effective to communicate messages===============================================

I get your point. I think they should think about showing more clips on why we should care,

Posted by: Drug Rehab Counselor at May 1, 2009 1:36 PM

you should not need a reason to care or not. its the fact that there are people out there, suffering, and almost dieing from drug addiction. do you not see the look of pain on the families faces, or the regeret in the users eyes. you should give a damn because that could happen to your family and if you needed help you would want people to care as well. its not even questionable on if you should care or not because these users are people and they have feelings, they have lives, whether they are drug related ones or not. your a sick pig if you have watched the show and you stilll dont know why you should care.

Does anyone know the song they play at the end of the show?? It is kind of mellow and I think it says 'sending out a lifeline' or something like that.

Emily -

The song is "Lifeline" by Mat Kearney. His new album came out last Tuesday

Treatment on drug addiction will vary according to a particular level. When a particular addict has long been using drugs, there could be a long term treatment for that. To keep a recovering addict motivated on rehabilitating himself, a drug addiction intervention can really help a lot for a full recovery.
