Robocalls

October 31, 2004

My God, I have gotten so many robocalls, I've begun to hate them more than telemarketers. So far I have received calls from:
  • Puff Daddy
  • Bill Clinton(2)
  • Spike Lee
  • Roger Clemens
  • Laura Bush
I want a call from John Kerry dammit, then I'll know I made it.

Cool Writing

So this is sort of political, but I stumbled across some great writing today, and wanted to point it out.

This was an editorial that ran in the Independent Weekly, it primarily deals with why this guy doesn't like Bush.

I don't agree with everything this guys has to say but a couple phrases jumped out at me.

Check out With trembling fingers.

I'd like to point out, I only care, because Kendall's obnoxious love of the Yankees makes me love the Red Sox out of cognitive dissonance.

Ah... politics

So as any of you that read this blog know, I have a newly found (past year and a half) interest in politics. However you might find that politics is boring. I beg to differ. I would like to submit to you, some of the weirdest, most amusing, or most disturbing political stories I have seen so far this cycle.

I Voted Today

So despite the City of Philadelphia loosing my absentee ballot application, I voted today.

I had to schlep down to City Hall. I have to say I was impressed by the process there. It looked a little haphazard, but I spent a grand total of about 5 minutes in line.

So I did my part, I voted for, amoung others, Kerry, Hoeffel, Eisenhower, and my personal favorite... Chaka Fattah!

I've done my part. Now I have nothing to worry about until Election Day, or as future generations will come to know it - Commencement of Politically Motivated Lawsuits Season.

380 Tons of Incopetence

That's right folks, we lost some explosives...

  • 380 Tons of them
  • In Iraq
  • That the UN had under control
  • That was looted while we protected the Iraq Ministry of Oil.

Stunning incompetence. If you're making terrorism your number one issue for voting, than this has got to be your wake up call.

P. Diddy is after me

October 22, 2004

I'm home sick today. I was woken up by a recorded phone call from P. Diddy, with his "Vote or I will have my bodyguard shoot you!" campaign.

Actually it's called "Vote or Die." Which is just as ridiculous, but I like mine better.

So I'm going to fill in my absentee ballot before he kills me.

Trimumph the Insult Comic Dog and Spin Alley.

This had me rolling. Download the video here

Favorite quotes:

  • "[Paul Begala's] head was so far up Clinton's butt that they used to call him The Coloniscope."
  • "Bush and black voters go together like Yassir Arafat and circumcision."
  • "[Ralph Reed] reeks more of Bush than a k.d. lang mosh pit"

Really interesting side note is that Paul Begala is featured prominently in the video, after asking "What are you talking about?" when Jon Stewart "accused" him of heading to Spin Alley right after the debates. Begala's just not having a good week dealing with comedy. I have to find some of SNL's Hardball parodies in which Kattan portrays him as a simpering bufoon.

Bredstik Films and the NFC

October 19, 2004

Anyone who reads this blog from time to times know that those of us that make up Citizen Wumpus have a lot of respect for our friends at Bredstick Films. They participated in the Nation Film Challenge this October and did quite a fantastic job.

Much to their chagrin they got the dreaded "Western or Musical" genre again, but I think they did a fantastic job of incorporating the Western feel into their work. I think it combines perfectly with the concept of workplace training videos to produce a really good satire. But don't keep reading my babbling, check out their film Rustlin' up Respect.

Citizen Wumpus Logs

October 17, 2004

So from time to time, I check the weblogs of www.citizenwumpus.com. They yeild some interesting results.

Many people get to citizenwumpus.com by searching on google. But what are they searching for?

Some of them are obvious:

Citizen Wumpus 20 hits
Wumpus  18 hits
Wumpus Produciton 5 hits

Some of them are strange but understandable:

edmund bacon in shanghai
whedon sorkin

Some of them are a bit troubling vis-a-vis our quality:

"voice over needed"
"48 hour film" contest tips techniques "do not"

Some just didn't make any sense to me but okay:
define www.lordoftherings.com
trojan war abstract modern pma
Macgyver the challenge

But my personal favorite:
ryan kelly douchebag

Additionally I know how often people search for various Citizen Wumpus members.
craig liggeons 9
terrence ryan 7
avish parashar 6
"terrence ryan" 5
nye warburton 3

As you can see Craig is the most popular member of Citizenwumpus. Or is he?

Schwartz Fights Back

Woohoo, Allyson Schwartz' campaign fights back.

Saturday, her campaign launched a counter-attack website to go on the offensive against Melissa Brown. It details one of the worst accusations against Melissa Brown. Specifically, that her healthcare company went under leaving thousands of people in the slightly inconvenient position of being denied treatment. However, a whole bunch of Brown's cronies pocketed a major windfall of money from the deal. Flash forward, they who were once cronies are now donors.

Dr. Melissa Brown- "First do no harm... unless you can profit from it."

More Politics

October 9, 2004

Well 'tis the season.

So Bush and Kerry met again. I agree with most of Kerry's opinions, so not much to go over there, but I was impressed by two things.

  1. Kerry's answer on stem cells hit home a key point. The embryos that would be used would otherwise be thrown away!
  2. Kerry's opinion on abortion is complex. So are the issues. Should a 16 year old incest victim have to notify her abusing father to have an abortion? Not so simple.

Not so simple. I think that's the meme that should go around. It's hard work. Yeah, it's also complex work. Maybe we need a president that can remember a Supreme Court case other than Dred Scott.

Finally, kudos to Kerry for repeating a Potter Stewart that doesn't involve pornography.

T. Ryan Screams at Congress

October 8, 2004

I guess if you're named T. Ryan, you like to scream at people. If any video clip would be linked here at Aarrgghh!! it should be this one.

It seems Ohio has elected a Congressman named Tim Ryan, who happens to be a Democrat with a brass pair. The video is him responding to the question "Why are young people afraid there will be a draft? The President said there wouldn't be." At least I hope so. It would be pretty bizzare if someone asked something like "Shall we vote on H.R. 5213?" and he responded with this:

Tim Ryan sticks it to the man.

I'd like to say that even though I joke, I do support this guy. I mean he screamed at Congress, and managed to make sense while doing it. That's awesome.

This past Friday she got hit by a set a negative ads.

pigglet

So I was reminded that Eeyore has killed before. Here's the proof. Pigglet didn't stand a chance against the little blue donkey.

However considering the season in which we find ourselves, I would be willing to believe that Eeyore is consuming Smoked Babar meat. I'm not sure what elephant meat would look like, but I think it's safe to say it would look like ham.

Veep Debate

Okay, so it was a draw. I don't know who won this one. However since Dick Cheney did not burn a hole in Edwards' chest with his horrific death-vision, I would say that Edwards performed better than expected.

As it was I think Edwards perseverated on a couple points. I think his attempt to continually remind the American people that 9/11 was not connected to Iraq was little repetitve. But then again, I watch and read the news.

All in all, I don't think it hurt.

I often find myself lamenting the fact that I don't seem to have as much time as I'd like to do everything I would like to do. Then I stumble on to this on my hard drive and realize that I waste large amounts of time.

The back story behind this is that a friend of my who will go nameless is afraid of Eeyore. He said that Tigger would protect him.
