Aarrgghh!!

One guy's take on the web, programming, cigars, politics, Philadelphia, and whatever else comes to mind.

Cool Writing

So this is sort of political, but I stumbled across some great writing today, and wanted to point it out.

This was an editorial that ran in the Independent Weekly, it primarily deals with why this guy doesn't like Bush.

I don't agree with everything this guys has to say but a couple phrases jumped out at me.

Check out With trembling fingers.

Here are my choice quotes:

Great Metaphor

Journalists used to look for the smoking gun, but this time we have the cannons of Waterloo, we have Gettysburg and Sevastopol, we have enough gun smoke to cause asthma in heaven.

Did he just reference 19th Century Paraguay?

That would probably mean a military draft and more wars in the oil countries and, under visionaries like Dick Cheney and Paul Wolfowitz, a chance for the United States to emulate 19th-century Paraguay, which simultaneously declared war on Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay and fought ferociously until 90 percent of the male population was dead.

Strong Closer

What this election will test is the power of money and media to fool us, to obscure the truth and alter the obvious, to hide a great crime against the public trust under a blood-soaked flag. The most lavishly funded, most cynical, most sophisticated political campaign in human history will be out trolling for fools.

So there you have it, I recommend this editorial.

On a side note, I can't wait for this election to be over.
