Terrence Ryan

I was born in Camden, New Jersey and grew up in Southern New Jersey in the media sphere of Philadephia. After that I went to twelve years of Catholic School, and ran screaming to the University of Pennsylvania. While there I joined Kappa Alpha (a frat), got a psych degree (worthless), and got a job with the Wharton School (in an unrelated field).

After being out of college for a few years I joined Polywumpus (an improv comedy group). I started doing crew, but after taking a few workshops, and being beaten into form by Avish Parashar, I became a performing member. The group then promptly folded. I took advantage of the downtime and started taking classes again at Penn, and discovered Screenwriting. So I wasn't done yet, with a couple like-minded members of Polywumpus I started Citizen Wumpus and began popping out crappy movies.

I started working at Wharton and love the work I do there. I've bounced from job to job during my time there. I started as desktop support, and have moved into systems administration over the past few years. I like to think I've gotten better and better jobs; but that might just be because I've gotten further and further away from the user.

Currently I'm an I.T. Director involved with the redesign of the WRDS web application. It's a massive undertaking which keeps me fairly busy.

Currently I live with my girlfriend fiancée wife, Janice Lee Ryan, and my son Jack, in a condo in the Center City/Fairmount section of Philadelphia.

In my spare time these days, I volunteer to do web development work for the occasional Congressional campaign. Want to know which ones? Drop me a line. Of course I also do freelance consuting. If you're interested, please feel free to drop me a line.

Technology

Arrgghh!! is mainly written using Cold Fusion MX 8, CSS and HTML. The blog portion is powered by Movable Type with an Active Perl backend.

Host

This website is part of the Numtopia site. It's hosted by Yo Host who seem to be doing a good job so far.

Reason

There are three main reasons for the site.

1. I work in Information Technology. By law I must have a website.
2. I'd like to fool around with new technology. (I learned PHP.)
3. I want to displace this guy as the number one Google result for my name.

Why Aarrgghh!!?

Aarrgghh!! isn't just a scream. It's an inappropriately intense scream. I am highly entertained by inapproriate intensity, so hence the name.

What's with that little guy?

I won't lie, I stole this guy from the cover of a book entitled Depraved and Insulting English. Which I highly reccomend. I think he embodies the phrase "inapproriate intensity." So he seemed the perfect mascot.
