Incredible Woman

I'm completely obsessed with the Incredibles. I love Pixar. I still have a Finding Nemo background on my home computer. And the Incredibles is another great movie. So far, I have a ringtone from the movie on my cell phone ('cause the music is awesome), and I've gone to the Incredibles website and created my own Superhero identity (I'm Groovy Girl, btw, with super-agility as my power).

My favorite character from the movie has to be Violet. There's something about her eyes and her attitude that I just love. Violet's voice is provided by Sarah Vowell. What a cool name for a writer. Okay, it's a little cutesy, but it's not like she had much choice in the matter.

Terry sent me this link to an interview with Sarah. That led me to Google her, because she's just so cool-sounding, and I found her site at the Steven Barclay Agency, which I presume is her official representation. She'll be at the Philly library on April 21st! I have to try and remember that. Maybe I'll go see her.

While I could have very easily clicked on the links link, I went back to Google and discovered this - Clips of her speaking on "The American Life" on NPR. It's a little creepy to hear "Violet" talking about revolvers on the kitchen table. But I intend to listen later.

Final proof that she's cool: She wrote for Salon. I really like the tone of Salon. It's thoughtful and even-handed. The articles are well-written. If I could be counted on to read it regularly, I'd buy a subscription. I don't want it to turn into a electronic version of the gym membership though. But I digress.

So, I've put her books on my Amazon Wish List, and I plan to listen to and read her stories later when I'm not procrastinating writing many, many pages myself for the grad school class from hell.

What ever happened to...

Spurred by a co-worker to find out the current status of Cookie Crisp Cereal and Jell-o Pudding Pops, I got to wondering.

What ever happened to carbonated milk?

I wish I could trace more of the thought process that led me to...oh, wait! I have it now. Remember when every new product or business added an E in front of what they were selling? Thank God that's over.

But what ever happened to eMoo, the carbonated milk beverage?

I forget what TV show it was, but some Nightline or 20/20-like thing did a spot on this couple that had developed flavored, carbonated milk. It sounds gross and intriuging at the same time. I don't like a lot of bubbles in my soda, I don't know how I'd feel about them in my milk. Plus, eMoo was really strange colors...like pink and bright orange.

Well, apparently, eMoo was tested on Cornell students, as implied here.

In 2001, it went on the market.

In 2003, the couple who came up with eMoo came out with RPM, or Refreshing Power Milk.

Unfortunately, the homepage of Mac Farms, the maker of eMoo and RPM is just a collection of broken links.

That's about it.

Maybe now I should try doing some of the stuff I'm supposed to be doing now...

This is why I like nature

I'm not a super-eco-friendly person, but I try to turn off the lights when I'm not using them, and not waste water. We pay extra so that we get some power from wind farms. I would like a hybrid car someday. We recycle cans and glass jars. Why? Because it's the right thing to do.

Why? Because nature does good things for us. Just ask these people who were saved by some dolphins while swimming near Austrailia. A great white shark was coming near, and the dolphins herded them together, then circled to keep the shark away.

That's something that dolphins will do to to protect their young, but these dolphins decided that a few people deserved the same protection as their own kin.

We should really do the same for dolphins, whales, birds, bears, and owls. There are lots of times when we could do something good to protect more vulnerable creatures, and we just don't think about it. But we really should.

So turn off the water when you brush your teeth. Cut up six-pack rings before you throw them out. Buy recycled paper. Save a fish, or a turtle, or a woodchuck. You'd want them to do the same for you.

Aarrgghh!!

So, I was going to write a little bio of myself, but while I was typing it in the extremely cramped confines of a classroom desk, I accidentally hit the back button on my laptop keyboard, and lost my entry. I decided to switch topics to links I like, starting with Aarrgghh!! That's Terry, my beloved boyfriend.

Other people I know, who also happen to have an internet presence:

Nye Warburton - a friend of Terry's who I now claim a stake to as well. He's an awesome animator. Not just I think so - he's gotten critical acclaim and good jobs from his masters thesis in animation, Magnetism.

Denise Elia - Dee and I have been friends since the 3rd grade. We're equally forgiving about our equally awful abilities to keep in touch over long distances, which is good, since we've consistently taken to living on opposite coasts.

Dan Alig - Dan also works at Wharton. He's kinda quiet, but generally nice and fun.

Scott McNulty - Another WCITeer. I don't know Scott really well. I know his office is on the floor above mine. I also know he blogs a lot.

Seth Goren - Seth is the friend that I would characterize as possessing qualties that make him most like a Muppet of anyone I know. Muppets are cool, ergo, Seth is awesome.

Thanks Terry...

"Blog o' Fun?" Gee, no pressure or anything. Now I have to be fun...

Thanks Terry, for setting this up for me.

I don't know what will come of this, but I felt a I needed a place to randomly ramble and apply alliteration altogether arbitrarily. Ironically, that's the least arbitrarily composed sentence I've ever written...but that's okay.

I'm not sure what will come of it, but I wanted it, and having recently supplied much Diet Vanilla Coke to Terry, it wasn't hard to get.

More about me later. I want to post my first message!
