Disney Vacation Club
On the Saturday of our long weekend trip, I talked Kris into going to a presentation on the Disney Vacation Club. After much mulling and talking it over, we decided to join. We finished signing all the paperwork , so it's finally official! I've never considered a timeshare or vacation plan before, but it seemed like a good deal, and then Kris crunched the numbers just to be sure. I trust her. She's my math person. :)
Since I went, I've heard from other people that went to timeshare presentations about how harsh and high pressure they can be. But Disney was very nice. They gave us snacks and drinks and instead of attending a boring presentation, we got a one-on-one consultation with Aaron, our DVC guy. When we told him we were smart and understood math, he skipped a lot of the boring stuff because we understood what he was saying right away. He also didn't try to sell us more than we needed or wanted. We took a tour, got our take-home packet of information, and then had ice cream before a van came and whisked us back to an evening at the Magic Kingdom. It was really nice. So we joined, and we're very excited about it.
If you're interested in finding out more, you should email Aaron. He's really nice - he even called after we got home to make sure we had a safe trip (and when Terry answered, he made sure to tell him it was business related, in case Terry is the jealous type - I thought it was unnecessary, but very sweet.)! His email address is Aaron (dot) Pearce (at) disney (dot) com.
We'll be trying it out for our first visit in May. Yay! Mickey!

I am possibly considering buying a timeshare at Disney. How do you like it? Has it worked out well for you? Would appreciate any comments you could give me on this. Thanks.

I really love it. Kris and I have each taken a vacation this year using it and we're planning our annual trip together this year, maybe to Vero Beach, or taking a weekend at a spa somewhere. There are a lot of choices. Our annual dues for 150 points was about $550 this year, which isn't bad for as many as 12 nights in a normal-sized hotel room. And we'll have it for the rest of our lives. I look forward to the day that I have kids of my own and can take them and a grandparent or two to look after them, and have it be paid for already.
If you haven't hooked up with a DVC salesperson, I highly recommend calling Aaron Pearce at 1-800-827-7202. He's really friendly and was really helpful. I called him several times before finally purchasing and he was really patient and helpful and never pressured me at all. You can say I referred you - they might have some sort of special for that - they do friends and family specials every once in a while.
Let me know if I can be of any more help!

This little "article" seems as though it were written by Aaron himself in order to boost his sales!
In my experience DVC or any vacation club/timeshare is just not that great of a deal. If utilized efficently over the life of the contract a family or individual can definitely save some money...a relatively marginal ammount of money (hardly a tremendous "value") but its still a savings. The costs are outrageous when you consider theres the buy in price per point now just over $100 plus yearly "maintenance fees" think HOA fees which fluctuate from resort to resort but generally are around the $4-5 per point! Essentially over 40-50 years these maintenance fees increase the total cost of ownership by 50% or more. If people are truly interested in the Disney Vacation Club and think that its worth their money then by all means purchase a re-sale membership. When buying "new" directly from Disney you are paying a premium and covering a lot of sales, marketing and administrative costs which are spread over the total # of units. The developers (in this case Disney) actually pass some of their costs on to you the consumer.
